de hand geperst op een machine die waarschijnlijk dateert uit 1880, in
gebruik bij een glasfabriek (ca. 1820-1888) in Sandwich MA, diverse
kleuren: o.a. ijsblauw, geel, amethyst, violet, cobalt.
(Remake 1979-1981, hand-pressed on a machine probably dated 1880, used
in a glass factory (ca. 1820-1888) in Sandwich MA, various colours: a.o.
ice blue, yellow, amethyst, violet, cobalt.)
Onderzetters voor kopjes werden veel gebruikt in de 18e en 19e eeuw.
Hete thee werd opgediend in kopjes zonder oor en uitgegoten op
schoteltjes om af te koelen. De thee werd van het schoteltje
opgedronken, terwijl het kopje op een onderzetter werd geplaatst om de
tafel te beschermen.
(Cup plates were widely used in the 18th and 19th century. Hot tea was
served in handless cups and poured into saucers to cool. The tea was drunk
from the saucer while the cup was placed on a cup plate to protect the
